If you haven’t played much hentai or seen a lot of anime, you may better calibrate your enjoyment level by thinking of this as an interactive comic book. When you start with a comic book, add full color, voice acting (in Japanese naturally), some animation, sound effects, more story than you can shake a sutikku at, an interactive card game, and explicit sex scenes that reward those with the patience of Zen masters, you end up with something that sounds rather interesting. I can’t say this is necessarily my chaki of matcha, but to fans of hentai, The Princess Waltz, lovingly translated into English (text, not voice) by Peach Princess, is the holy grail. Unlike many other releases that may seem sexually exploitative (and just what you’re looking for likely, not that there’s anything wrong with that), this title is heavy on the story, while placing the sexual elements squarely within the context of that story. And what does the story consist of? It runs the gamut of elaborate swordfights, soap opera schoolyard drama, battles with bizarre creatures, the requisite constant humiliation for one reason or another, and lighter comic relief moments that often get lost in minutia. The first ten minutes are about breakfast. I give them credit for being thorough.
The battles are played through a card game, you know one of those Magic: The Gathering jobs. It’s a little baffling although there are instructions. Winning provides experience points that you may add to a handful of stats at the beginning of the next battle. And of course your game can be saved throughout.
The love themes build with the quickness of a geological age, and if you’re patient, will eventually spill out onto your screen in a most explicit fashion. But if this is what you’re looking for specifically, then you will be disappointed. Hentai fans looking for a long, convoluted story heavy on drama and action with a shit ton of images, however, will likely be satisfied.
